The Death Of Delivery & The High Cost Of Doing Business

Gas prices hit an all time new high this week in Post Falls, $4.00 plus. Even my Saturn is now over $50 to fill up. The gas prices have begun to hit everyone no matter what their income level, and I fear that this is only the beginning. All of our costs have gone up across the board, some almost by 70% in the last 12 months. We are still strugling to not have to pass the costs on to our valued guests. Effective July 1st, however we are making some of the following changes;
Termination Of Delivery Service: While we had enjoyed doing delivery we are terminating deliver just on the cost of gas alone.
Actual Shipping Charges On Cistin @ Home service: We will be charging the actual FedEx Ground rates on all Cistin @ Home services, instead of the current flat rate.

It is our hope that these small measures will make it so that we do not have to do a price increase across the board. We understand that everyone out their is one a tight budget, and we will try to hold the line as long as possible.

Online Ordering And Delivery Live Monday the 17th

Our new online order feature and delivery go live Monday the 17th. Delivery is available Monday - Friday 11-2. All delivery orders must be in by 10:45 and be to Post Falls area businesses. If you have any questions e-mail or call us. The online ordering system works for take out, delivery, or dine in. You can even schedule an order hours or days in advance. All in all it is very cool. Give it a try and let us know what you think

Online Ordering Is Coming!!

We are putting the finishing touches on online ordering for the cafe. Our goal is to have the system in beta in the next couple of weeks. Along with the online ordering we are hoping to roll out delivery to Post Falls area businesses. The preliminary guidelines for delivery are:
  • Post Falls city limits businesses
  • $10 Minimum
  • Delivery from 11:00am - 2:00pm Mondays-Fridays
  • Delivery orders must be placed by 10:45am

Shape Our Cafe's Music

Help shape the cafe's music by downloading LastFM. LastFM is a free, and legal, streaming music service built on tags. It is like Flickr or Youtube but with music. It takes only minutes to download and then when you hear something you think would fit in the store just simply add the tag "Cistin" to it. And yes I will be checking the additions to the list so no over the top stuff, because it will just get deleted off the list anyways.

Where Are You?? Ohhh There You Are.....

As you may have noticed the autoguns from Portal took the site down for the past few days, but we are back up now and spreading the word that the cake is a lie.

imagine. paint!

I always liked fingerpainting, but you get strange looks when you fingerpaint at 34 so with that in mind we have worked with Seth at Art Music And More to bring the Paint Booth to the cafe.  For the low, low, low price of $10 you get a canvas, paints, brushes and such to use to create a masterpiece you can take home.  Adult or child it is actually a great way to spend some time and let your imagination roam.

Eat. Drink. Imagine.

2008 is here and with it our new push into the arts. This is something that I have wanted to do for a long time and just have not had the knowledge to do well. Starting in January we have forged a relationship with Spokane based, Art Music And More. Seth at AM&M will be handling all of our art type things going forward and helping us transform into a place where you can not only eat, drink, but also imagine. Whether that imagination come from reading the works of a local author, viewing the paintings or sculptures of local artisans, listening to a local band or musican, or even creating your own work of art it is my hope that with Seth's help we will become Post Falls' home for just that.

Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we introduce more aspects of our journey into the arts.

A Special Message To Our Friends, And Those Who Doubted

St Patrick's day marked three years. When we signed our original lease at 2600 E. Seltice we where told Post Falls wasn't big enough to support a coffee house. Latter I was told by those who came after us that we were not sophisticated enough to survive. Still others pointed and said we where overbearing, obnoxious and destroying the "tradition" of the industry. As I write this those who attacked and mocked are either gone or now trying to duplicate our success in Post Falls. To those who doubted, to those who mocked I simply have this to say,
THREE YEARS BITCHES!!

To our loyal customers, those who believed, those who have made us what we are today I say thank you from the bottom of my heart you mean more to me then you know. Some of you, Donnie & Renee, have given us your trust by letting us be your coffee supplier for your new business. Others, Ted, Kate, Rod, Keven, Stacia, Ray, Helen, Jenny, Carrie, Don, Liz, Pete, Sarah, Courtney, Mike, Marty, Elizabeth, Angelo, Cindy, PJ, Rob, Brian, Josh, Julayne, Allisa, Brent, Peggy from MoCafe, and everyone who at the moment I am forgetting, you have become like an extended family, and I am grateful for your business and your belief in us. One person though gave me more then her business, she gave me her love, to the women who fell for the line, "Quit dating boys and start dating baristas," thank you Jen. Your are my life, you are my love. I never thought that I would be so richly reward with someone like you because of this journey. To my staff, it wouldn't be possible without you, and a special thank you to Josh and Amy, you have been with us from the start and to that I am eternally grateful.
What a long strange trip this has been, and I wouldn't have it any other way. All of your support and friendship has made it worth it.

-Patrick

One final note: The above message would not be possible if not for my parents, Kit and Paul, not just for their financial support of Caife CIstin and Signal Point Roasting, but also because I'm really bad at paperwork and plumbing. Thank you

Fun With Blenders!

Will It Blend? You Betcha!

Bibi Is Back (Friday)

Praise the coffee gods, Bibi is back on Friday, and this time its bringing friends. Starting Friday we will also be carring Almond Bibi, and its signature drink the White Angel Bibi. In other news we're all sick of the cold weather.

New Year's Renos

We will be closed on New Year's day to do some renovations and such. A touch of paint here a dab of spackle there, all in all it should result in no loss of life.

Big News

The Coeur d'Alene Press/North Idaho Business Journals annual book of lists was published today and we are the third biggest volume indie Coffeehouse in North Idaho. The top two in volume where both from downtown Coeur d'Alene. Thank you to all of our customers who have made us such as success!!!

Child's Play

Christmas is fast approaching and I would like to ask all of our customers to donate what they can to Child's Play. Child's Play is a charity started by the creator's of the web comic Penny Arcade to help Children's Hospitals around the nation. The charity provides games and toys for sick kids in these hospitals, including Sacred Heart, in Spokane. The coolest part is that EVERY CENT, EVERY DOLLAR, goes to help the cause, no administration costs are taken out of your donations. So please donate early and donate often this Holiday season.

CoffeeFest Recap

On Saturday we traveled to Coffee Meca, Seattle, for CoffeeFest. Over the next few weeks we'll be adding the cool stuff we saw at the show including:

BaklaBites: Litle bite size Baklava that come in a three pack. Really darn tasty and prboably why I will gain weight this winter.

MoCafe Chili Spiced Coco: Like Mexican Spiced Coco but with more of a heat to it, expect to see this really really soon.

StixToGo: Not food, but really cool. StixToGo are little covers for the to go cups that fit inside the slit, but don't leave a film or residue like the stickers some places use. We are using them today.

Teapots, Coffee Makers, and Cups: Made by Northwest Glass Designs these are high end glass coffee accessories that are dishwasher, microwave and stovetop safe. Prices range from 15.99 and up, and should be in stock within two weeks.

Monin Maple Spice Syrup: Nummy! In store this Friday afternoon.
